## At a glance

- Company: Jio Platforms
- What it does: Listed telecom and digital platforms company; proprietary UBR fixed wireless broadband (AirFiber) offered for overseas licensing
- Based in: Mumbai
- Latest: Reported licensing talks with Comcast and Charter for UBR broadband tech
- Date: 2026-11-04

Jio Platforms is in discussions with US cable operators Comcast and Charter Communications about licensing its proprietary unlicensed band radio broadband technology in exchange for potential equity stakes, according to a Reuters report cited by Inc42 and Fortune India on November 4, 2026. There is no announced deal and no timetable. Inc42 said it sought comment from Jio, Comcast and Charter.

UBR beams fixed broadband over unlicensed Wi Fi style spectrum from rooftop or tower transmitters to building receivers, avoiding a cable run into every home. Fortune India, reading Jio's Q2 FY27 investor presentation, says the company wants an asset light, platform based path to monetise technology already deployed at scale in India by partnering with local operators and providing managed services. The same presentation, per Fortune India, calls UBR a competitive advantage that enabled rapid deployment and twice the net additions of the nearest rival over the prior three months.

Domestic scale is the proof point Jio is selling. Fortune India reports fixed broadband subscribers at 30 million in the September quarter, including 15.1 million AirFiber users, with 7.3 million fixed broadband additions over twelve months and AirFiber more than 75% of those adds. Inc42 adds that Jio is targeting about 10 to 15 global partners for the technology.

Talks are not the same as a signed licence. Reuters also reported discussions with South Africa's MTN Group that did not progress after valuation and licensing disagreements, Fortune India and Inc42 note. Until a named partner, fee or equity stake appears, the Comcast and Charter story remains a reported negotiation around exporting an India built fixed wireless stack.
