# Bengaluru-built Inkle buys Finally's bookkeeping business in its first acquisition

Inkle, an AI-powered accounting, bookkeeping and tax firm for US companies, has acquired the bookkeeping division of Finally, a small business finance platform. Inkle announced the deal on October 28 and described it as an all-cash asset purchase covering customers, team and assets. Financial terms were not disclosed. It is the company's first acquisition.

Inkle is headquartered in San Francisco but builds its technology in Bengaluru. It was founded in 2022 by Anand Krishna, who runs the company from San Francisco, and Ranvir Singh, who leads technology from Bengaluru. The Bengaluru team of about 60 engineers, product designers, tax professionals and bookkeepers built Inkle Books, its general ledger, and its tax and compliance platform. About 100 Finally staff in the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Miami, Boca Raton and New York are joining, taking headcount to roughly 160.

The deal shifts who Inkle serves. Its clients have mostly been venture-backed startups, including Indian founders setting up Delaware companies, and it is the cross-border compliance partner for Stripe Atlas for Indian founders. Finally's customers are largely non-tech small businesses such as contractors, clinics, restaurants and professional services firms. Those clients keep their existing bookkeeping teams, now working on Inkle's platform.

Finally's parent, Backoffice.co, entered an assignment for the benefit of creditors on September 8 and is being wound down, according to a notice on its website. Investing.com reported that Finally had raised $200 million in equity and debt in 2024, while Inkle says it reached profitability after raising only $1.5 million in pre-seed funding from Picus Capital, Saison Capital and Force Ventures. Inkle gives its software away free and charges for AI-assisted bookkeeping, tax and compliance services, delivered on Inkle Books or on QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho Books and Mercury Books.
